Abstract submission has now closed.

Submitted abstracts are now being considered by the Scientific Program Committee and authors will be notified of acceptance or otherwise by 6 March 2012 – this communication will be issued to authors by email to the address used on the abstract submission form.  Please contact the Congress Office if this email address has changed: sarah@wsm.com.au

The Committee thank you for your involvement and look forward to working with you to ensure this is an outstanding program for all attending.

Online submission was the only method of receipt of abstracts with the exception of some awards and prizes being considered at the Congress.

The Congress Managers or Organising Committee will not be held responsible for abstract submissions not received via the website or for submission errors caused by internet services outages, hardware or software delays, power outages or unforeseen events.

Presentation Types

Oral Presentation: For those authors invited to present an oral presentation, please note that the duration of your presentation will be confirmed in your invitation letter. Please note: for all oral presentations the following equipment will be available in each session room for use by speakers:

•    Data projector (for powerpoint presentations)
•    Laptop  (PC compatible)
•    Laser pointer
•    Lectern and microphone.

Poster Presentation: For those authors invited to present a poster presentation, please note that you may be required to be present at your poster at a specific time on a specific day, and this time will be confirmed in your invitation letter. The poster display will be an integral part of the Congress program and will be displayed in the exhibition area.

Call for Abstract Submissions – Close: 13 February 2012

Abstract submission is a two step process:

STEP 1
Online Abstract Submission Form:
To complete the online abstract submission form the following information is required:

•    Your Contact Details
•    The Title  of your Abstract
•    Presentation Type
•    Submission Category
•    Name and Organisation of all Co-Presenters and Co-Authors
•    Brief Biographies for Yourself and all Co-Presenters.
•    Each Biography should be no more than 100 words

Please note:

•    All abstracts must be prepared according to the guidelines provided. Incomplete
     or incorrect submissions will be returned to the author and must be 
     re-submitted immediately in the correct format to be considered for inclusion in
     the program.
•    All fields on the online abstract submission form must be completed. Please
     print a copy of the abstract submission for your records prior to clicking the
     submit button.
•    Abstracts will be published exactly as they are submitted; there will be no
     opportunity for amendments.
•    Abstracts must be submitted by the presenting author who should complete all
     fields on the online submission form.
•    Abstracts will be subject to a blind review and therefore most not contain the
     authors details within the abstract itself.  DO NOT INCLUDE THE AUTHORS
     DETAILS WITHIN THE BODY OF THE ABSTRACT.
•    Please ensure all author information is submitted on the submission form.
•    The presenting author must read, complete and submit the Disclosure
     Statement on submission of their abstract

STEP 2
Abstract Template: Download the general abstract template, save it to your desktop and complete it. Use the template to present your abstract in the required format.

•    Abstracts not submitted using this template will be returned for correction.
•    Abstract text must be in Arial, 10pt size, single-spaced and justified
•    Your abstract text should be no more than 300 words, including references.
•    There is to be a maximum of two references.
•    Use standard abbreviations only. Within the body of the abstract, when using
     abbreviations spell out the name in full at the first mention and follow with the
     abbreviation in parenthesis. Abbreviations may be used in the title, provided the
     name in full is outlined in the body of the abstract.
•    Your abstract should clearly outline the Background, Aims/Objectives, Methods
     Findings and Conclusions where applicable.*

ABSTRACTS MUST BE SUBMITTED NO LATER THAN MONDAY 13 FEBRUARY 2012

Double-Check Your Submissions

You are required to double-check that your abstract has uploaded correctly and has been correctly converted to a PDF file during the upload process. To do this, you should log back into the Speaker’s Portal and check your submission status on the “Show Abstracts” page. Publication of Abstracts

All abstracts accepted for oral and poster presentations will be published in a Wiley Blackwell journal supplement Internal Medicine Journal / Journal of Paediatrics and Child Health. The journal supplement (Congress Abstract Book) will be distributed at the time of the Congress.
To avoid errors please proof read carefully before submission. Revisions to the abstracts will not be permitted after 13 February 2012, the submission deadline.

Notification of Abstract Results

Authors will be notified of their abstract results by 6 March 2012.  All correspondence relating to the submission will be directed to the primary contact person and they should in turn distribute to any/all co-presenters.

Speaker Registration

The invitation to make an oral or poster presentation does not constitute an offer to pay travel, accommodation or registration costs associated with the Congress with the exception of some awards and prizes. Refer to the Awards and Prizes page for more details.

All speakers must register and pay the appropriate registration fee for the Congress by 31 March 2012 to have their abstracts published in the Congress journal supplement (Abstract Book).

Disclosure Statement

Invited Oral/Poster Presenters, please read the disclosure statement.

All presenters and chairs/facilitators of sessions are expected to disclose to the audience any significant financial interest or other relationship with:

•    The manufacturer/s of any commercial product/s and/or provider/s of commercial
     services discussed in a presentation.
•    Any commercial supporters of the presentation.

The intent of this disclosure is not to prevent a presenter or chair with a significant or other relationship with a commercial company from making a presentation, but rather to enable audience members to form their own opinions as to whether a presentation is biased or not. It remains for the audience to determine whether the speaker’s interest or relationships have influenced the presentation.

Significant financial interest or other relationship may include such things as:

•    Support of individual or department research.
•    Any support or financial incentives, current or past, which relate to the subject
     matter of the current presentation.
•    Any stock ownership or options, employment, loan or financial relationship with
     a company whose product or service is directly connected to the topic of the
     presentation.
•    Being a consultant for a company whose product or service would be directly
     affected by the subject matter of the current presentation.

Presentations must be free of any commercial bias:

•    No commercial literature or audio visual material may be used.
•    Trade or commercial names should be avoided unless necessary for clarity.
